"The streak" for the incredible FDU-Florham women's basketball team hit a milestone Saturday, and two local alums played their usual big roles.

Junior forward Shalette Brown, a Franklin High School grad, racked up 18 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and four steals as the Devils recorded their 50th straight victory with a 93-48 romp of Wilkes.

Sophomore point guard Alyssa McDonough (Sayreville) chipped in 18 points and seven assists while committing no turnovers as the Devils, who last lost in March of 2013, improved to 17-0.

For the season Brown is averaging 13.1 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. McDonough is averaging 11.6 points and 3.2 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from 3-point range.

The defending Division III national champions are ranked No. 1 in the country.

Around the hardwood

The honors keep pouring in for Middlesex County College women's basketball sophomore Quorea Pearyer. The Plainfield native and Union Catholic graduate, a sophomore guard, was named national junior college Player of the Week after averaging 27.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 4.0 steals over two games.

Dartmouth men's basketball junior Alex Mitola (Gill St. Bernard's) tallied 18 points, three assists and three rebounds in a 70-61 upset of Harvard. Mitola made all 10 of his free throws in the contest, extending his streak at the line to 24 straight. The verdict snapped Dartmouth's six-year, 11-game skid to the Crimson.

For the first time since they led St. Joseph-Metuchen's boys basketball team to the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions crown last March, Karl-Anthony Towns and Wade Baldwin took the floor together last week.

Towns, a freshman forward who hails from Piscataway, notched four points, four rebounds and seven blocks as his Kentucky squad stayed unbeaten with a 65-57 win over Vanderbilt. Baldwin, a freshman guard from Montgomery, posted four points, four assists and nine rebounds as the Commodores fell to 11-7.

Felician men's basketball is getting big contributions from J.R. Pringley (Linden). The senior forward racked up 26 points on 11 of 18 shooting and grabbed 14 rebounds in an 87-75 win over Goldey-Beacom. In a 69-64 loss to Post, Pringley produced 16 points and 14 boards.

Ithaca women's basketball junior guard Keri Steele (Hunterdon Central) is averaging 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in 20 minutes per game for the Bombers, who are 13-4. She scored seven in Saturday's 54-49 loss to St. John Fisher, which snapped a seven-game winning streak.

William Paterson women's hoops freshman Jackie Rodriguez (Sayreville) compiled 17 points, four assists and two steals in a win over Ramapo.

Georgian Court men's basketball forward Keith Hughes (Woodbridge) scored 24 points in a 76-70 loss to Dominican.

Drew men's hoops junior Mike Klinger (Rutgers Prep) tallied 25 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 76-59 win over Goucher.

Somerset County guys Steve Raynes, Will Lacosta and Alex Mango (left to right) hang out after Columbia’s victory over Brown in men’s swimming.

Reunion in the pool

It was a Somerset County reunion on Manhattan's upper west side Saturday when the Columbia University men's swimming topped Brown 168-124.

For Columbia, Pingry School grad Alex Mango placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.58) and fifth in the 500 freestyle (4:45.62), while Ridge grad Steve Raynes took fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.81).

For Brown, sophomore Will Lacosta (Pingry) took third in the 200 IM (1:56.60) and contributed to the third-place 400 freestyle relay (3:16.71).

Odds and ends

Johnson & Wales wrestling freshman Bobby Jordan (Woodbridge) is 20-10 with four pins at 125 pounds. In Saturday's New England Wrestling Association Headlock For Hunger Duals, Jordan went 4-0 and prevailed in the final with an 8-2 decision over Roger Williams' Nicholas Barbaria.

Maryland men's track and field sophomore Tom Hogarty (St. Joseph-Metuchen) placed third in the mile at Princeton's Tiger Open with a time of 4:18.36. His top time this season is 4:15.11.
