Nine GMC teams will compete in NJSIAA Wrestling Tournament

Nine Greater Middlesex Conference high schools have qualified for the NJSIAA Team Wrestling Tournament, which commences with Monday’s quarterfinals.

All sectional dual meets will be contested at the site of the highest seed.

The semifinals are slated for Wednesday and the finals will be wrestled on Feb. 13. All times are to be determined.

The winners of each section advance to the state Group semifinals and finals, which will be contested Feb. 15 at the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton.

As the top seed in Central Group III, South Plainfield will host the winner of Monday’s quarterfinal between No. 5 seed Hopewell Valley and No. 4 seed Ocean. The other half of that sectional bracket includes No. 2 seed Cranford, No. 3 seed Long Branch and No. 6 seed Somerville.

As the No. 2 seed in Central Group V, Monroe awaits the winner of a quarterfinal between No. 6 seed Sayreville and No. 3 seed Old Bridge. On the other side of that sectional bracket, No. 5 seed Edison faces No. 4 seed Hillsborough with the winner advancing to Wednesday’s semifinals at top-seeded Hunterdon Central.

South River, the No. 5 seed, will get a chance to avenge a 38-35 regular-season loss to No. 4 seed Shore when those teams meet in the Central Group I quarterfinals. The winner wrestles at top-seeded Cinnaminson. The other half of that sectional bracket includes No. 2 seed Point Pleasant Beach, No. 3 seed Bordentown and No. 6 seed Maple Shade.

In Central Group II, No. 6 seed Middlesex faces No. 3 seed Delran with the winner wrestling second-seeded Raritan. The other half of that sectional bracket features No. 1 seed Delaware Valley, No. 4 seed Rahway and No. 5 seed Point Pleasant Boro.

In North 2 Group IV, No. 6 seed Woodbridge wrestles at No. 3 seed West Morris with the winner facing No. 2 seed Scotch Plains-Fanwood. The other half of that sectional bracket includes No. 1 seed Phillipsburg, No. 4 seed Mendham and No. 5 seed Middletown North.

Top-seeded Christian Brothers Academy awaits the winner of Monday’s Non-Public A South quarterfinal between No. 5 seed Bishop Ahr and No. 4 seed Paul VI. The other half of that sectional bracket includes No. 2 seed St. Augustine, No. 3 seed St. John Vianney and No. 6 seed Red Bank Catholic.
