Bound Brook’s Nick Accetta OW at Flo-Excalibur Tournament

Nick Accetta, one of three individual champions for Bound Brook, was named Outstanding Wrestler at the Flo-Excalibur Tournament hosted by national power Wyoming Seminary at the Marts Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

The Crusaders, competing without a 120-pounder and without 170-pound star Josh Ugalde, held out merely to rest from being a bit nicked up, finished second in the two-day event with 206.5 points.

Host school Wyoming Seminary, which InterMat ranks fourth nationally, bested the field of 20 teams from six states with 320.5 points.

The Glasgow brothers, Stephan (145) and Sean (152), also won titles for the Crusaders, who InterMat ranks No. 25 nationally.

Accetta’s take down as the buzzer sounded in overtime produced a 2-0 decision over Wyoming Seminary’s John Busiello in the 132-pound final.

“Nick is a grinder and he keeps pressure on the entire time,” Bound Brook coach Shaun Cleary said. “He keeps wrestling with the same intensity the entire match and has a tendency to wear (opponents) down. It was a really exciting win for him and well deserved.”

Most of the 14-team weight classes had 16-wrestler brackets with the 160-pound class featuring Wyoming Seminary’s Chris Weiler, who is ranked ninth in the country.

Bound Brook’s Mekhi Lewis dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to Wyoming Seminary’s Will Verallis in the 138-pound final. Abraham Saavedra (195) also placed second for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders entered the second day of the tournament in second-place, 132 points behind front-runner Wyoming Seminary.

Bound Brook’s Joe Casey posted one of the fastest pins of the tournament, recording a 29-second fall on Friday Night. He placed second at 106 pounds.

Anthony Lopez (113), Andrew Gombas (160) and Aaron Saavedra (182) placed fourth for Bound Brook, while teammates Garrett Beam (132) and George Walton (160) each finished sixth.

Bound Brook’s Tyler McIntosh (126), Mike Borja (220) and Ryan Galdamez (285) each placed Top 8.
