Nadera named OW as Old Bridge wins Icebreaker Tournament

Stephen Nadera, who was named Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights, was one of five individual champions for the host Old Bridge High School wrestling team, which edged runner-up Governor Livingston for Saturday’s Icebreaker Invitational Tournament title.

Nadera pinned two of his three opponents on the way to the 120-pound crown.

Teammates TJ Angstadt (138), Xavier Jenkins (152), Mike Gargano (182) and Dan Makagon (195) also won individual titles for the Knights, who finished with 258.5 points.

The Highlanders, who amassed 243.5 points in the nine-team field, crowned four individual champions with Austin Senkarik (132), Turner Haddad (145), Spencer Marke (220) and Sean Tomlinson (285) winning titles.

East Brunswick had its best success in the lower weights with Mark Schliefer and Tyler Schwartz winning titles at 113 and 126 pounds, respectively. The Bears finished third with a team score of 195.

Matawan’s Alex Pierce, who pinned his way through the tournament, including a 5:01 fall of East Brunswick’s Anthony Tamayo in the 170-pound final, was named Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weights.
